Our program is built on a strong foundation of integrity, discipline, and teamwork. Students develop not only performance skills, but also confidence, leadership, and lifelong friendships. Guard offers a unique opportunity for performers of all experience levels to grow in a supportive and inspiring environment while working toward a shared goal. We are committed to creating meaningful experiences, unforgettable memories, and a culture of excellence.
Color guard is the visual storytelling element of the high school marching band. The color guard performers combine movement, equipment work, and expression to bring the music to life visually. Instead of playing instruments, they interpret the mood, style, and story of the show through choreography. Color guard transforms a marching band show from something you hear into something you feel—adding color, motion, and meaning to every note on the field.
Auditions occur in early May for rising 9th-12th grades. Middle School students (rising 7th-8th grades) may participate in the color guard camp only.
Sequoyah High School Winter Guard (SHS WG) is a competitive performance ensemble that blends dance, theater, and equipment work (flags, rifles, and sabres) to create powerful visual storytelling. As a proud member of the Southern Association for Performance Arts (SAPA), SHS WG competes locally against some of the top programs in the region, showcasing creativity, precision, and artistry.
The season begins with auditions in November and runs through March, culminating in the SAPA Championships. Throughout the season, members rehearse and refine their show, ultimately performing at multiple competitions and community events.
