For marching band rehearsals, the chaperone committee team rinses coolers, fills them with ice and water and sets up tents for shade. You'll monitor students for signs of heat stress, provide assistance as needed, use a wet bulb thermometer to track heat and humidity levels, coordinate bathroom breaks, and lend a hand with any needs that come up throughout the day.
For games, competitions and other events, chaperones help ensure student safety, organization, and support throughout the event. They supervise students during travel, ride the bus, distribute water and snacks, and keep the group on schedule.
"Chaperoning allows me to see more than just the show. I get to watch confidence grow, excitement build, friendships establish, and students discover who they are becoming. Being part of such an important chapter in my daughters' lives and seeing how marching band shapes their skills, character, and confidence is truly rewarding." - Christine Senior
The roadie crew is responsible for handling the logistics and equipment that keep performances running smoothly. Their duties include loading and unloading instruments, props, and gear; setting up and breaking down equipment on the field; and assisting with transportation and staging. Roadies ensure everything is in place and ready for performances, rehearsals, and travel. They’re essential to the behind-the-scenes operation, helping the band focus on their music and routines.
"Before I started, I had no idea what being a roadie really involved. I expected to move equipment, but the experience is so much more than that. Helping place everything on the field lets you connect more with the students and gain a deeper appreciation for the show. I truly enjoy working with this group." - Jessica Mosley
The uniform committee helps students look performance-ready on game days. Volunteers assist with distributing plumes and accessories, checking uniform appearance, managing quick fixes, and collecting items after the performance. They ensure all uniforms are worn correctly, complete, and returned properly at the end of the night.
"Working on the Sequoyah uniform team is a fun and spirited way to volunteer. There's something special about seeing students looking their best on the field. Playing a part in helping them get ready is a rewarding way to be involved." - Alma Leljedal
The hospitality committee helps distribute meals to students efficiently and safely. Duties include setting up the serving area, portioning food, managing lines, ensuring cleanliness, and assisting with cleanup afterward. These volunteers help keep students well-fed and energized after long days of performing.
Running the concession stand at home football games is one of our biggest fundraisers and a vital way parents support the band program. The concessions committee helps with setting up, preparing and serving food, handling cash or card sales, and cleaning up after the game. By giving your time in the concession stand, you’re not only supporting the band financially but also showing school spirit and helping create a fun game-day atmosphere for the community.
"Joining the Band of Chiefs Concessions Crew has been one of the most fun and rewarding ways to support the program! From the moment you step in, you’re part of an energetic team, connecting with incredible Band parents while making a real impact. There’s nothing like the buzz of game night—serving up hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, and more, all while creating a welcoming experience for visiting teams. The smiles, the appreciation, and the sense of teamwork make every shift worth it. And the best part? You don’t miss a thing—you’ve got a fantastic view of every home game and halftime show. It’s fast-paced, exciting, and truly a great way to be part of something special. Go Chiefs! " - Scott and Tracy Begley
Not ready to jump into a committee? We often need individual volunteers to step in for specific tasks throughout the year. These are one-time opportunities that are perfect for parents who may not be able to commit to longer-term committees, but still want to support the band. Each event requires different kinds of help, and filling these roles ensures that everything runs smoothly for our students. Even just a few hours of your time makes a huge difference!

"Volunteering with the band has been one of the most rewarding and fun parts of our family's experience. You get a front-row seat to the hard work, growth, and friendships these kids build and you truly feel like part of something special. It's also a great way to support your own child in reaching their lettering goals while giving back to the program. Even a little bit of time makes a big difference." - April Cirincione
